What We Are Looking For

The Solid Earth Geosciences Instrumentation Specialist and computer systems administrator will be directly responsible for maintaining and providing technical support for specialized computers, software, and operating systems and the scientific instrumentation associated with these computing systems in faculty research areas and shared laboratories in Geosciences.

A Bachelor's Degree, three years of relevant work experience, and an active Christian faith are required. A Master's Degree and five years of relevant work experience is preferred. Education and experience may be considered in lieu of one another.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

What You Will Do
  • Maintain hardware and software for specialized computing systems (including data server, data backup system, plotters, etc.) in, but not limited to, the Paleomagnetism, Geophysics, and shared department lab facilities.
  • Provide general maintenance, troubleshooting, and software and hardware updates for geosciences instrumentation associated with the specialized computer systems in the research and teaching labs indicated above. The position includes a specific focus on maintaining, operating, troubleshooting, and updating paleomagnetism instruments and software.
  • Consult with Geosciences faculty to specify computing systems, operating systems, software, and related hardware associated with research instruments. Work with vendors to secure purchases, update software, and maintain the various licenses and upgrades associated with such systems.
  • Coordinate with Baylor's ITS and other computer support personnel to ensure that computing systems in the geosciences research labs are updated and operating optimally. Includes installing, configuring, updating, and troubleshooting of software on Windows, Linux, Unix, and Macintosh computer systems.
  • Serve as technology resource for geosciences faculty, staff, and students by conducting demonstrations and training sessions on use of the software, computers, other technology, and geophysics and paleomagnetism instruments in labs, classrooms, and research areas.
  • Assist with mobilization of instruments and research equipment for geophysics and geosciences field excursions.
  • Ability to comply with University policies
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission
